Charles Edmund Adamthwaite

(source London Gazette) Royal Warwickshire Regiment. Charles Edmund Adamthwaite to be Second Lieutenant in 1901, to be Lieutenant in 1901, resigned commission in 1903.  His name appears on list of army personnel returning from the Boer War from Cape Town on THE BRITON which arrived in Southampton on 29 sep 1902.

Son of Charles Edmund and Caroline (Shore) born 1882, died 1928

(source London Gazette) Newton and Failsworth Regiment (Failsworth is near Salford) John Adamthwaite, gent to be Lieutenant in 1809, to be Captain in 1811

Think this must be John Adamthwaite, son of Elizabeth Adamthwaite, born 1780, died 1843

(source London Gazette) Notts and Derby Mounted Brigade.  John William Everard Adamthwaite (late Cadet Sherborne School Contingent) to be Second Lieutenant 1912, to be temp Lt in 1916

Son of William Lupton Adamthwaite and Blanche Rosa (Buckworth) born 1891, died 1953

 

 

Mark Adamthwaite ORANGE line

(source attestation papers) In his application form dated 5 mar 1915 to serve in Canadian Overseas Expeditionary force, he claimed to have served for five years in the Long Island 17th Co of Volunteers.  He gave his age as 42 yrs 7 months and his date of birth as 2 aug 1872 .  [height 5’ 2”, chest 34”, fair complexion, blue eyes, brown hair]

Son of John Allen Adamthwaite and Eliza (Saynor). Actual date of birth 2 aug 1859, died after 1920 in USA)

 

Stephen Bellas Adamthwaite

OLIVE line

(source registers of Seamen’s Services) enlisted in 1911 and signed up for 12 years, but continued to serve until the end of 1928

Born 29 dec 1889 Kirkby Stephen, Westmorland (No K13460) [height 5’ 6¼” chest 37”  lt brown hair,  brown eyes, fresh complexion]

Son of Joseph and Mary (Irving) born 1888, died 1970

 

 

Thomas Bryan Adamthwaite

(source registers of Seamen’s Services) Records of service in 1874 and 1875.  Form also states he signed up for 10 years in 1877, but no evidence of any postings.  A note appears to say ‘ran on leave’.  Did he desert?

Gave his date of birth as 26 march 1859 Camberwell Surrey, (no 88235) [height 5’0½”, brown hair, blue eyes, pale complexion]. Why did he claim to be younger than he actually was?

Lieutenant in Kilkenny Fusiliers.  William Lupton Adamthwaite to be Captain in 1883
