general strike of 1926 and served as a Corporal in the East
Surrey Regiment.
When he was stationed at Fort Regent, St Helier, Jersey, he
met Alice Maria Brown and they were married there in 1926.
Alice was nanny to the children of the Captain of Charles's
regiment. During WW2 Charles served in the Home Guard in
Southall.
